Behind the Legend:
Pygmalion was a sculptor who created a statue of a woman so beautiful and perfect that he fell in love with it. He prayed to the goddess Aphrodite, who granted his wish by bringing the statue to life. The statue, named Galatea, became his wife, symbolizing the power of love and art to transform reality. The painting shows Pygmalion swooning over his statue and praying by moonlight for her to be brought to life.
