Description

Hermann Rorschach (1884–1922) was a Swiss psychiatrist that developed the Rorschach test (aka the inkblot test), a projective psychological procedure in which reactions to abstract inkblot images are used to analyse personality and emotional function drawing conclusions on unconscious thought patterns. This painting superimposes the inkblot image onto a butterfly as a commentary for how the sudden sight of something (e.g. a white butterfly) can recall a random unrelated memory and how past trauma can surface in unexpected moments.
