The Legend behind the Artwork:
In Ancient Greek, Hades, god of the underworld, abducted Persephone to be his queen, and her mother Demeter caused the earth to wither in grief. Before Persephone was returned, she ate six pomegranate seeds, binding her to spend six months each year in the underworld. This explains the seasons: the earth flourishes when Persephone is with Demeter and becomes barren during the months she stays with Hades.
